  Sveta Gora Sveta Gora ; Italian: Monte Santo di Gorizia) is a settlement in western Slovenia in the Municipality of Nova Gorica. It encompasses Holy Mount (Slovene: Sveta gora), above the Soča Valley and southwest of the Banjšice Plateau. History In May 1917 Sveta Gora was the scene of heavy fighting between Austrian and Italian forces.   The Kobarid Museum The Kobarid Museum developed from a museum collection which was set up by the locals with professional assistance of Goriški muzej in 1990. It first operated within the frame of the Tourist Society of Kobarid. Five years later, in agreement with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, the founders transferred the management to a non-profit company of limited liability which still manages the Museum. First Battle of the Isonzo – 23 June–7 July 1915 The First Battle of the Isonzo was fought between the Armies of Italy and Austria-Hungary on the Italian Front in World War I, between 23 June and 7 July 1915. The aim of the Italian Army was to drive the Austrians away from its defensive positions along the Soča (Isonzo) and on the nearby mountains. Although the Italians enjoyed a 2:1 numeric superiority, their offensive failed because the Italian commander, Luigi Cadorna, employed frontal assaults after impressive (but short) artillery barrages.
